The National Education and Research Network (RNP) is preparing two new proofs of concept with Claro and Brisanet to bring fixed wireless access (FWA) to federal university campuses in the Northeast.

According to RNP's executive director of engineering and operations, Eduardo Grizendi, the tests will be at the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte, in São Miguel (RN), and at the University of Delta do Parnaíba, in Parnaíba (PI), expected to take place later this year.

The technology is used to deliver cable-free broadband to students, researchers and servers in places where fiber cannot reach. RNP brings together 600 institutions and 1,800 campuses and is also studying the creation of its own virtual mobile operator.
