Fake videos created by artificial intelligence and low-quality information have become the main digital threat to elections and democracy, according to the Internet, Democracy and Elections Guide, published this Tuesday (22) by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br).
The document compares the scenario of 2018, the year of the first edition, with the current electoral cycle. While open networks were previously the main means of disseminating false content, today messaging applications such as WhatsApp appear as the main dissemination route, with misinformation circulating at the same time on several platforms.
The guide points to video as the main vector of false content and discusses the impact of generative AI on elections and tools such as deepfakes. The publication brings together guidelines for the institutional fight against misinformation and guidelines for citizens not to propagate misleading content.
