Anatel is evaluating creating specific rules for the roaming of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. At the opening of the MVNO Experience, this Tuesday (22), in São Paulo, the agency's competition superintendent, José Borges, said that the current guidelines were designed for people, not for machines.

According to Borges, the rule's 90-day deadline was designed based on immigration issues and should not apply to IoT: mission-critical applications, such as tracking cargo and prisoners with electronic ankle bracelets, cannot lose connectivity.

The superintendent stated that the regulation will not imply price controls, which will continue to be negotiated between virtual operators and network holders. Contributions from the IoT grant making will be collected in a report to the agency's board of directors.
