An 8-month-old baby died this Saturday (3), in Macaé, after, according to the Civil Police, being asphyxiated by his stepfather with a pillow and a blanket. The child was taken by a neighbor to the Lagomar UPA without a pulse and did not resist treatment. The man identified as responsible and his mother were arrested red-handed.
At the police station, the woman would have changed the first version and said that she witnessed her partner stop the child's breathing after she started crying, without interfering for fear of also being assaulted. In the medical evaluation, professionals identified old lesions scattered throughout the baby's body.
The stepfather was arrested in Itaboraí after police intelligence work, and the mother was also arrested. The two remain at the disposal of the Justice and the circumstances of the death are yet to be ascertained. The report did not locate the defense of those involved.
