The subantarctic fur seal that appeared at Praia de Monte Alto, in Arraial do Cabo, on Monday (21), was seen resting at Praia das Dunas, in Cabo Frio, after traveling around 12 km.
Biologist Greicy Ruenes, from GEMM-Lagos, explains that finding the animal resting on the beach does not mean that it is sick. According to her, the species swims long distances, and preserved beaches are important as rest areas.
This is the second appearance of a subantarctic fur seal in the region this year. GEMM-Lagos recommends not approaching, not touching, not offering food and not trying to return the animal to the sea.
