Three scrapyards were closed on Tuesday (27) in Araruama, on the banks of the Amaral Peixoto Highway, during Operation Desmonte, coordinated by Detran RJ. In one of the establishments, agents located the engine of a Volkswagen Gol stolen in 2017 in the Brás de Pina neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio.

According to Detran, none of the three businesses had a license to operate and the pieces sold were not registered or identified with the labels required by law. Inea also highlighted an environmental risk, with carcasses and parts exposed directly on the ground and signs of an oil spill.

The owner of one of the businesses was taken to the police station on suspicion of receiving stolen goods. Reports of irregular scrapyards and illegal parts trade can be made through the Ouve RJ portal.
